The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries are inviting young readers and their families to visit the campus of Peabody College of education and human development in April for the first in a series of fun, immersive storytelling experiences called “Story Strolls.”
The Story Stroll initiative, which is organized by Peabody Library, Peabody College, the Susan Gray School and The Acorn School, places the pages of an illustrated children’s book on signs along a walking path, encouraging families to read books together while enjoying the outdoors. By bringing stories into outdoor spaces, the initiative intends to remove barriers to access, promote literacy dynamically and inclusively, and foster a sense of community through a love for literature.
“The Story Stroll offers families within the greater community a precious opportunity to bond over shared narratives,” said Tiffeni Fontno, director of Peabody Library. “Parents and children can explore the magic of storytelling together, sparking conversations and igniting imaginations. In a world filled with distractions, this experience creates moments of connection that are cherished long after the final page is read and experienced.”
The first Story Stroll, which runs through April 30, features the book We Move Together by Anne McGuire and Kelly Fritsch. The walk begins near the Peabody Library patio. Details about future Story Strolls will be shared soon.
