Tuesday 11/15 Art for Lunch – Curator’s Tour

Guided tour of the exhibition New Art, New Directions: Recent Acquisitions, focusing on Emily Arthur’s works.   

Wednesday  11/16   Collective Shelter Performance, 1:30pm -2:30pm

Students in the Performance Art class taught by Professor and artist Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons, respond to the artwork recently acquired by Vanderbilt Art Gallery focusing on the Global South. The performance pays homage to artist Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara, an activist currently being held in prison for fighting for the freedom of speech in Cuba.  With Luis’ imprisonment and journey to freedom for himself and the Cuban people in mind, the students question the meaning of collective shelter, collective consciousness and the keys to our collective freedom today.
