Alexander pre-senate papers open for research, with new acquisition

Lamar at Capitol 1968, photo; Lamar Alexander Papers

If you missed our New Acquisitions in Distinctive Collections March webinar you may not know that the pre-senate papers of retired U.S. Senator and Governor Lamar Alexander have been fully opened for research. A recent acquisition to the collection is this photograph of Alexander in front of the U.S. Capitol Building in 1968. At that time, he was working as a legislative assistant for U.S. Senator Howard Baker of Tennessee. Thirty-four years later, he would be elected as a senator himself and return to Washington. Archivists Sara Burd and Mary McSparran are currently processing the senatorial papers of Lamar Alexander which will complement his pre-senate materials. If you would like to see this collection or any of the holdings of Vanderbilt Special Collections and University Archives, please contact us to make an appointment.
