Job-Ready Skills with O’Reilly and Other Online Resources Workshop

Walker Management Library business librarian Kelly LaVoice presented “Add a Job-Ready Skill by Utilizing the O’Reilly for Higher Education Platform” on April 3rd in collaboration with the Owen Graduate School of Management’s Career Management Center.

The O’Reilly platform contains reference materials on computer programming, technology, and business transformation via books, videos, case studies, audiobooks, and structured learning paths.  Kelly highlighted O’Reilly’s Expert Playlists on particularly relevant skills such as Tableau, Python, and APIs.  A Research Guide outlining all of these resources covered can be found here.

Kelly also highlighted other resources the library has available for skills development, including Bloomberg Market Concepts, a self-paced e-learning course.  Another helpful online resource is Kanopy, which has a selection of documentaries related to the business world including The Inventor, the acclaimed story of the rise and fall of the Theranos corporation, as well as a wide selection of classic and arthouse films for personal enjoyment.

For more information on the scope of VU’s access to e-books beyond O’Reilly for Higher Education, Electronic Books at the Vanderbilt Library provides an overview of further resources to aid in skills development.
