The Friends of Vanderbilt Libraries present an evening of gaming history and card playing

Join the Friends of Vanderbilt’s Libraries for an evening of card game history and whist playing with David Levy, collector and historian of card games, on March 27 at 5:30 p.m. in the Central Library’s Community Room.

Treasures from the Library’s recent acquisition of the George Clulow and United States Playing Card Company Gaming Collection will be on display.

Mr. Levy has distinguished himself as a historian of playing card games and books. In his lecture entitled “You’ve Got Pirates!” Mr. Levy will explore Edmond Hoyle’s A Short Treaty on the Game of Whist, the most important book written about a card game.

Following the talk, attendees will play whist, an easy card game to learn–no experience necessary to join in the fun! Student musicians will be performing and refreshments served during the game playing.

Everyone in the Vanderbilt and Nashville community is welcome. Please RSVP to nancy.dwyer@vanderbilt.edu to reserve your space.
