Vanderbilt Libraries Welcome New Students

The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries joined colleagues across campus to welcome new students back to campus for the fall 2022 semester. In addition to college and school-specific orientation activities, a dozen library staff participated in information fairs and orientations across campus. The libraries had a combined presence at the CommonVU University Resources & Services Fair; Transfer Student Orientation; the Graduate School Information Fair; the Sophomore RECHARGE Information Fair; Family Weekend; and the fall Undergraduate Research Fair. We met with close to 700 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, sharing information about how the libraries can support students in their academic journeys and help them be successful at Vanderbilt.

We also passed out close to 100 ice cream treats to students, faculty, and staff at the libraries’ Orientation and Ice Cream Social. The 9th annual ice cream social, held at the Central Library, was expanded this year to include an information fair featuring representatives from the nine campus libraries, and other well-loved departments, including Digital Scholarship & Communications, the Vanderbilt Television News Archive, and Resource Sharing Services. In addition to the ice cream, the libraries raffled off two pairs of wireless earbuds.
