The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries, in partnership with the National Museum of African American Music (NMAAM), have acquired the research materials of Grammy-winning musician Yusef Abdul Lateef. Lateef’s musical artistry crossed and combined multiple genres, including Middle Eastern and Asian music, American jazz, and classical. He was a noted educator, author, composer, and visual artist. This rich collection includes musical manuscripts, papers, photographs, and a watercolor painting, and is a vibrant new addition to Vanderbilt’s Distinctive Collections.
