Summer Semester Buchanan Library Fellowship: Modalities of Textual Analysis: Large-Scale Natural Language Processing on Spark/Databricks

The Modalities of Textual Analysis project will be exploring different approaches to analyzing ProQuest’s British Periodicals Collections using natural language processing on Databricks/Spark. Students will have the opportunity to explore building custom NLP pipelines for projects like the correction of optical character recognition and document classification. This fellowship opportunity is intended for one or two students with significant prior experience programming in either Python or Scala. Contact: Cliff AndersonMark Schoenfield

The Buchanan Library Fellowship program provides immersive learning experiences that develop career-ready skills and support lifelong learning in undergraduate students. Fellows work in multidisciplinary cohorts on tactical projects for Vanderbilt Libraries over the course of a semester to make library collections more accessible or shed new light on a collection or topic.  At the end of the semester, fellows present their work and share their findings with the Vanderbilt community.  Fellows are paid $1,000 for their work.
