It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Professor of Fine Arts, Emeritus, Franklin Hamilton Hazlehurst, who passed away on November 12, 2020, at the age of 95. Hazelhurst earned his bachelor of arts cum laude (1949), master of fine arts cum laude (1952) and doctor of philosophy (1956) from Princeton University. Educator, scholar and administrator, Hamilton Hazelhurst chaired the Vanderbilt Department of Fine Arts (now the Department of History of Art and Architecture) for over thirty years, teaching French Baroque architecture and garden design. He was a patron and respected advisor to the Vanderbilt Fine Arts Gallery. A memorial service will be held at a safer time due to COVID-19.
