Management Library staff step up during COVID-19 crisis

Kelly LaVoice is a member of Owen’s Remote Teaching Task Force (developed in response to COVID-19), which has been planning for and working with faculty to move all courses online. She is in the “classroom,” helping to moderate and troubleshoot MGT 6560 : Marketing Strategy with Professor Goldsmith (section 1). She is working with vendors and VUIT to provide access to electronic financial resources/software that are usually only available in person–prioritizing those for faculty and students that have assignments that require these resources. She is working with Owen’s Career Management Center to provide a virtual workshop on resources students can use to build their skills during this time (e.g. O’Reilly, Bloomberg Market Concepts). She organized a Tableau software workshop, quickly communicating with enrolled students to make sure the whole program could be provided remotely.

Ben Darling, Management Library’s service coordinator, brought books and a scanner home so that he could provide document delivery of sections of reserve books for student use. With the help of Director of Acquisitions and E-resources Julie Loder’s publisher guide, Darling is keeping up with publishers as they allow access to books that are included in current course syllabi. He created a new chat and email monitoring schedule for the whole team, and worked closely with student workers to ensure they have meaningful assignments while working remotely.

Robbi De Peri created a research guide, COVID -19 Business Impacts. She is in the virtual classroom with three Owen faculty members, helping to moderate and troubleshoot issues as faculty have moved their classes online. De Peri, one of the last staff members to be on site, brought physical items to co-workers who left things in their office.
