Paste Paper & Bookmaking Workshops

Do you remember how finger painting was so much fun? If you like making art that’s expressive and want some messy zen in your day, come to the paste paper workshop November 14th. You’ll work with mixed acrylics and paste using a decorating technique that’s hundreds of years old. You will make several examples of paste paper and hang them to dry overnight.

On Friday November 15, we’ll meet to turn paper into a multiple signature, hardcover hand-sewn book. Participants can use their paste paper on their book or book cloth. Come learn key basics of hand bookbinding: paper grain, gluing techniques, and folding.

Day One: Paste paper making is Thursday 11/14 1:10pm – 3:30pm Central Library Staff Lounge, meet in the 4th floor lobby
Day Two: Book making is Fri 11/15 10:10am – 2:30pm Department of Art, Ingram Art Studio Room 310

Artist Jace Graf will lead the workshops. Jace teaches book arts in Austin, TX and around the country. His company, Cloverleaf Studio, specializes in hand bookbinding, box making and book design. Since 1997, Cloverleaf Studio has worked with libraries, authors and small publishers to produce custom designs.

The new Library series Print & Paper brings artists and others to discuss and teach about printed matter.

The workshops are free, but space is limited. Please rsvp to ace@vanderbilt.edu to reserve your space and find out about helpful supplies to bring besides your apron.
