Women Scientists WikiProject Women Scientists is dedicated to ensuring quality and coverage of biographies of women scientists. Unfortunately, part of Wikipedia’s systemic bias is that women in science are woefully underrepresented. Let’s change that! On November 14, come to the Wond’ry to hear Wikimedian-in-Residence Alice White talk about her work as a historian of science at London’s Wellcome Library. We’ll teach you how to edit Wikipedia, provide tips from experienced editors, and work together on updating articles, improving citations, and adding more biographies about notable women scientists.
Who’s your favorite woman scientist? Does she have a Wikipedia page? Find out!
Our speaker Alice White holds a PhD in History of Science from the University of Kent. Her dissertation focused on how management science was developed and used by the British Army and its psychological staff during World War Two. As Wikimedian-in-Residence at the Wellcome Institute, Alice develops outreach programs connecting Wikimedia users with the Wellcome’s vast collections of specimens, books, manuscripts and scientific tools. She edits Viewpoint: the British History of Science magazine and @ExploreWellcome.
All are welcome to this free event. Lunch is provided, as is editing help. Sponsored by Vanderbilt Libraries and the Wond’ry.
