The Power of Linked Data and the Semantic Web – Machines that Think

Scholarly Communications Workshop Slide

Friday October 23rd, 11-12 at the Central Library.

The Semantic Web links, formats, and shares data, enabling machines to go beyond simply identifying key words in data to extracting meaning from data. Resource Description Framework (RDF) is the model of the semantic web. Once data has been stored and structured with meaning, RDF data can be queried using SPARQL (Protocol And RDF Query Language) to yield meaningful search results. Callimachus is a Linked Data management system that allows you to easily use SPARQL on RDF data.

Come join us to learn more about these tools and the power of linked data. Steve Baskauf, senior lecturer in Biological Sciences, is our guest presenter.
