Jean Stumpf, Community Leader and Library Supporter, Passes Away

The Massey Law Library mourns the death of Jean Goodman Stumpf, who passed away on Thursday, November 6, 2014.

Mrs. Stumpf and her late husband, Professor Samuel E. Stumpf, were benefactors to the Alyne Queener Massey Law Library at Vanderbilt University. Professor Stumpf was the first Vanderbilt professor to gain the title of emeritus in two departments, having served as the first chairman of the Department of Philosophy from 1948 to 1963. After his death, his family endowed a Law Library fund for purchasing books on jurisprudence, law and morals, and law and philosophy, showcased in the law library in a rotating display.
