On Friday, August 9th and Monday, August 12th Owen Graduate School of Management first-year students patiently lined up to have their photo taken in the Walker Management Library Conference Room. While this may seem like a minor event during a fast-paced and challenging Orientation week, the photos taken are an important part of the Owen community directory, facilitating interaction between students, staff, and faculty, and offering an opportunity for professional headshots to use over the next few years. Walker Library staff was on-hand during the photo sessions, assisting with everything from getting student IDs and parking permits to providing a mirror to keep everyone looking top-notch for their photo. To combat boredom for those waiting in line, staff members actively engaged students by inviting them to answer questions placed on easels around the library. The questions were designed to encourage interaction between students and staff, as well as with each other, asking things like “Hometown Glory: Where Are You From?” and “What’s Your Theme Song for 2013-2014?” Hosting the photo shoot in the library was the perfect opportunity for staff and new students to mingle, chat, and start the year off right.
