Database Trials at the Music Library

The Music Library is currently trialing two new databases, the Naxos Video Library and Classical Scores Library. Click on the links below to access them, and send your feedback to sara.manus@vanderbilt.edu.

The Naxos Video Library – This new Naxos product features streaming video of approximately 250 full-length operas, ballets, documentaries, concerts, and musical tours of historic places. Currently, the Naxos Video Library features videos from labels such as Arthaus, Dacapo, EuropArts, Medici Arts, and Opus Arte. The collection emphasizes world-class performances of standard operatic and dance repertoire, with new content added regularly. Naxos Video offers two searching option (basic and advanced), and also allows users to browse for content by genre, composer, artist, label, or production personnel. Videos are streamed via Adobe Flash player, making this service compatible with both Macs and PCs.

Classical Scores Library – Created by Alexander Street Press, the Classical Scores Library (CSL) currently contains 14,757 individual scores formatted for printing. Content in the CSL is a mix of copyrighted and public domain scores from publishers such as Boosey & Hawkes, Universal, and Faber. Genres covered include the blues, chamber, contemporary classical, folk, instrumental, opera/operetta, orchestra, and vocal/choral. Although there are no limitations on printing from CSL, the user agreement specifies that you can only use their scores for practice and study, NOT public performance. Our trial for the CSL extends through May 8, 2010.
