The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries will host a pair of events on Wednesday, Sept. 17, to celebrate Constitution Day.
The primary purpose of Constitution Day is to commemorate the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17, 1787, by delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, and to promote a deeper understanding of this foundational document and its significance to American government. The day also recognizes all those who have become citizens through birth or naturalization, reflecting the day’s original name, Citizenship Day.
On Sept. 17, the Central Library will distribute pocket Constitutions and other library materials in the main lobby from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cake will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m. All in the Vanderbilt community are invited to participate.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Commons Center, the Peabody Library will host “Liberty and Snacks for All.” Members of the campus community are invited to test their knowledge of constitutional trivia while enjoying free snacks and candy.
