Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., a global media company that publishes more than 100 peer-reviewed academic journals, today announced a three-year read-and-publish agreement with Vanderbilt University’s Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries. Effective from 2025 through 2027, the open access agreement is the first of its kind that Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. has signed with a North American institution and will enable Vanderbilt-affiliated authors to maximize the discoverability, readership and citations for their research without incurring article processing charges (APCs). Articles submitted by Vanderbilt authors Jan. 1, 2025, or later will be eligible.
“Vanderbilt University is proud to be the first organization in North America to enter into a read-and-publish agreement with Mary Ann Liebert, Inc.,” said University Librarian Jon Shaw. “Their robust portfolio of leading publications, spanning topics such as biotechnology, clinical medicine, public health and engineering, will greatly expand opportunities for our researchers to share their ideas and discoveries with a global academic audience.”
Under the new agreement, Vanderbilt authors will be able to publish their research APC-free in all Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. publications, including 15 journals ranked in the top 10 percent of their respective fields by Scopus CiteScore. Among them are Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics, the No.1 journal for Medical Laboratory Technology, and Advances in Wound Care, the No. 2 journal for Emergency Medicine. Eighteen Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. journals are likewise ranked in the first quartile of the 2024 Journal Citation Reports, including Autism in Adulthood, the No. 1 ranked journal in the fields of Developmental Psychology and Rehabilitation.
“Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. has long been a champion of open science, offering a generous green open access policy across our portfolio of journals for many years alongside a growing gold open access program,” said Wendy Newsham, VP, Commercial Sales – Global Licensing. “While we have had read-and-publish agreements in the U.K. and Europe since 2019, we sought an ideal read-and-publish partner in North America. It was a great pleasure working on this agreement with the team at Vanderbilt, led by Julie Glascock, director for collection strategy, Heard Libraries. We are thrilled to embark on this exciting partnership, providing faculty and other researchers at Vanderbilt not only the ability to access critical resources, but also a path for all Vanderbilt authors to publish their incredible work open access.”
