Curators’ Tour and Reception, Thursday, March 24, 4:10–5:10 p.m., Fine Arts Gallery
Co-curators Kevin D. Murphy, Andrew W. Mellon Chair in the Humanities and professor and chair of the department of History of Art and Architecture, and Lisa Reilly, Commonwealth Professor of Architectural History at the University of Virginia will lead an interactive tour of the Skyscraper Gothic exhibition at the Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery. Highlights include a massive iron screen made by famed metalworker Samuel Yellin for the Woolworth Building and a 1914 New York skyline originally painted for Harold Stirling Vanderbilt’s yacht Vagrant. The curators will share how the large collection of working drawings for the Woolworth Building, made in the office of architect Cass Gilbert, made their way from the loft of a Maine barn to the collection of the Vanderbilt University Fine Arts Gallery.
A reception and book signing follow, sponsored by the department of History of Art and Architecture.
