Constitution Day Celebration at Central Library on September 17

Please join us at Central Library on Tuesday, September 17 at 1:00 pm for an afternoon of activities to commemorate Constitution Day. Constitution Day and Citizenship Day is observed each year on September 17 to commemorate the signing of the United States Constitution on September 17, 1787, and to “recognize all who, by coming of age or by naturalization, have become citizens.” There will be an event starting at 1:00 pm featuring students, faculty, library staff, and others reading the Constutition aloud. There will also be a table in the Central Library lobby with free copies of the Constitution from the Government Printing Office and other information. Central Library has been a proud member of the Government Federal Depository Library program since 1884, one of three libraries in Tennessee to have that designation for the longest time. As a federal depository, Central Library is committed to the principles of disseminating information from all three branches of the federal government; of free access to government information for members of the Vanderbilt community and the public; and of safeguarding the public’s right to know.
