Vanderbilt Libraries and the Nashville Shakespeare Festival are throwing a birthday party for William Shakespeare. Join us on the Library Lawn for an afternoon full of fun and festivities on April 23, beginning at noon.
There will be jugglers, troubadours, fight masters, and scribes on hand, as well as Shakespeareoke, where you can recite your favorite Shakespearean soliloquies, sonnets, and speeches. Puppeteers from the Nashville Public Library will be there, and we will serve cake and ale (ginger-ale). Learn to write with a quill or dance like a lord. Did I mention guest appearances by Fardels the Bear and the Bard himself? Needless to say, we have arranged for an Elizabethan selfie station.
Schedule:
12:00-2:00 Fun and festivities all over the Library Lawn
1:00-1:30 Puppet Show, The Tempest
2:15 We will crowd-source Shakespeare in an attempt at a Guinness World Record by performing the largest balcony scene ever from Romeo & Juliet.
3:00 Denice Hicks of the Nashville Shakespeare Festival will perform the world premiere of a one-woman show, The Maiden Phoenix. In the Library Community Room, first come first seated.
