Two leaders of SPARC (the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) will speak to the Vanderbilt community, Thursday, September 29, 10:00AM, Central Library (Room 800BB). The event is free and open to all. Nicole Allen, SPARC’s Director of Open Education and Nick Shockey, Director of Programs and Engagement will be a Vanderbilt to share the benefits and tools of open access and education.
Open Education promotes resources, tools, and practices free of legal, financial and technical barriers and can be fully used, shared and adapted in the digital environment. SPARC works in Open Access, Open Date and Open Education to enable the open sharing of research and educational materials in order to democratize access to knowledge, accelerate discovery, and increase the return on our investment in research and education. SPARC collaborates with authors, publishers, libraries, students, funders, policymakers and the public to promote changes to both infrastructure and culture needed to make Open Access the default for research and education.
