My name is Ilyas Eli and I am a fourth year medical student in the school of medicine. I am from Somalia, but I grew up in Nashville. I am the middle child in a family of seven siblings. I attended middle school and high school in Nashville, and went to Vanderbilt University for my undergraduate education. I majored in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Early on, I realized the fact that I enjoyed biology, research, as well as taking care of patients which is why I aspired to go to medical school. Post-medical school, I will be going into neurosurgery residency program at the University of Utah. In my spare time I play basketball, watch TV shows, play video games, and spend time with family and friends.
I started working in the science and engineering library during my junior year as an undergrad. I enjoy being surrounded by students who are studying the sciences. Providing support to academically driven individuals is something I really enjoy. Additionally, the atmosphere in this library is very supportive, cordial, and being open 24 hrs most days of the week makes it very conducive to late night studying.
