Music librarians Jacob Schaub and Holling Smith-Borne recently curated exhibits for Stage and Screen: The Star Quality of Vanderbilt’s Performing Arts Collection. The exhibits are located in the Central Library as well as in the lobby of the Martha Ingram Center for the Performing Arts. Exhibit topics include David Schnaufer and the Tennessee Music Box, Enrico Caruso, Marian Anderson, Geraldine Farrar, Maria Callas, Metropolitan Opera Tours, Early Performances at the Ryman, Historic Opera Houses, Historical Opera and Concert Programs, and Francis Robinson. Many of the exhibit items are from the Francis Robinson Collection, a native of Tennessee who spent more than thirty years at the Metropolitan Opera where he served variously as tour director, assistant manager, press representative, and host of Saturday afternoon broadcasts from the Met. David Schnaufer was a long-time instructor at the Blair School of Music who was nationally known as a virtuoso on the Appalachian dulcimer. The exhibit includes interactive touchscreens where viewers can further explore the topic and listen and watch video and audio clips of performances. The exhibit runs through August of 2013.
