From the first of April until the end of August 2007, Special Collections and University Archives will feature a Civil War exhibit entitled, “Gone But Not Forgotten: Civil War Materials in Special Collections. This exhibit will feature materials from the Mary Margaret and John L. Farringer, Jr.; Harris D. Riley, Jr.; Sam Fleming; James G. Stahlman; and the Jesse Wills family papers. Gleaned from these collections are items as diverse as slave records, diaries, letters and memorabilia from the Civil War era.
The online version of the exhibit spotlights a cross section of these diverse materials. Among the items presented include illustrations from Harper’s Pictorial History of the Great Rebellion (1868), original maps from the era, handwritten Union and Confederate orders, re-enactment materials from the 1964 centennial of the Battle of Nashville, a Confederate field surgical kit, an 1848 cap and ball revolver, a sword from a Union cavalry soldier and other related items.
